On Saturday Jamie Rand and Chris Hall won the 1 hour Enduro race, at Homestead, Miami, USA in Jamie’s Juno SSV6 and Chris smashed the lap record.
A great win but what is even more remarkable is that Chris, of Juno Racing (USA) picked the car up at the airport on Friday, bolted the rear end on and drove directly to Miami/Homestead speedway. Without any set-up change whatsoever and the car direct from the factory and off the plane, they took the win. Out of the freight crate and into the winner’s enclosure in one day.
This brand new high specification, paddle shifted SS3-V6, Jamie’s 3rd Juno, ran flawlessly! He started the race very conservatively being this was his first outing in the new car. Having done about 2/3 of the race and he turned over the car to the Chris Hall in 3rd position; after the mandatory 5 minute pit stop, Chris took the helm of the Juno V6 and brought it home in first place and at the same time set a PBOC track record beating much lighter, higher down force, cars. Even the new Élan DP02 running their new “tunnel system” which is now legal under the IMSA Lites rules (which is a feeder series to the ALMS) were present but Chris & Jamie were able to outpace & outlast them all!
“Later that evening I e-mailed the data to Juno’s owner Ewan.” Jamie said the following day. “Ewan reviewed the data and noticed the new V6 Juno was only running at about 88% of full throttle. A quick inspection found that during shipping of the car a few things on the throttle cable came loose. Now that the throttle cable is in its correct position; we can’t wait to see what we can do at the next event with the car running at full power. Probably a new track record again!!!”
We certainly hope so and wish him more successes and a great deal of fun.
